The AKG brand is much better known to audio professionals than to the general public. But thanks to the AKG K550 headphones, the manufacturer is finally entering the race by offering a high-quality model. Recently, I had made an analysis of AKG K550 Headphones. In this AKG K550 Headphones review 2022, I gonna reveal the analysis and explain whether it is still worth buying.
One of the best audio quality-price headphones. But they are only functional at home.
- Type: Over-Ear / Circumaural, closed type.
- Frequency response: 12Hz-28kHz
- Impedance: 32 Ω
- Sensitivity: 114 db
For a decade, AKG’s Hifi headphones remained with an open design that did not allow any type of isolation, and that was focused on their use in music studios. Of course, they were Hifi music headphones with very good value for money.
Before jumping into this article, make sure you understand the Headphone Technical Specifications.
The AKG K550s broke this tradition in many ways and by bringing a completely different design to the brand, both inside and out. In addition, thanks to their new closed structure they have good insulation, which gives us a new musical experience
For all this and more, from BestXpot, we have dedicated an exhaustive analysis to the AKG K550 that will reveal all its details.
Design – AKG K550 MKII
The AKG K550 MKII is great in every way: its headphones are wide and thick; the cable is quite long, and inside they have transducers of up to 50 mm. It is a closed over-ear design, with a composition designed to isolate the user from noise, also preventing sound leaks from the inside (which will also prevent others from listening to your music).
Despite their size, they are not heavy headphones: they barely weigh 300 grams. Of course, due to their size, the AKG K550 MK2 will dominate your head almost like earmuffs. But despite this, we repeat, they are relatively light and comfortable, even if you wear them for long sessions. Although yes, we have found that they warm the ears more than other models.
As against we will tell you that when testing them we have noticed that they do not grip as well as they should. If you lean down, you notice that they may fall. The issue worsens when you jump or make sudden movements.
For now, the AKG K550 MK II only makes them in a single color: black. Very different from what brands like Bose and Sony offer us.

The AKG K550 M2 uses a non-removable rubber cable. For this price, we would have liked to see a removable cable. Not for durability, but for portability issues. At 3 meters long, the cable of the AKG K550 MKII is too long to carry comfortably anywhere. It seems that the designers did not focus as much on its outdoor use.
Regardless, their size already made them look like non-portable headphones. But when we seek isolation in noisy environments and with a high concentration of people, this will limit us quite a bit.
This troublesome cable ends in a 3.5mm threaded connector. Also, in the box comes a 6.3 mm adapter.

Sound – K550
We wanted to start with some classic blues and BB King’s “ The Thrill Is Gone ” was our pick.
The first thing we notice is that the AKG K550 MK2 is roomy on the ears, and in a way that goes beyond most closed designs. The series of tones, which seem to have a strange remote air, is well defined and the earpiece separates the individual strands of the song, as well as integrates them back into a coherent whole.
The voice (which is critical in this song) has a wide space and is full of refinement. As we are seeing, the AKG K550 MK2 does not lose a single detail. The presentation in general is quite complete and balanced. The K550s are very communicative, handling rhythms in a natural, unforced way, and delving down the bass line with precision.
They seem very close to going out of tune at times, but AKGs walk confidently. Although they savor the shrill voice of BB King, they have enough drive and attack to make The Thrill Is Gone an exciting, hard, and dynamic title to listen to.

Also, the fineness of the guitar in the composition is quite remarkable, since it gives a lively and high-resolution touch to the mix. We found very few defects. In some places, the highs were accentuated a bit more than normal. In others, the bass was not at one hundred percent. But if we take into account its moderate price, it is normal that we do not find a perfect sound.
And it is that based on what we have heard and analyzed, we can say that there is a good value for money. It should be added that in the box we did not find a protective bag for the headphones.

The AKG 550 is a very good helmet. It is solid and rather comfortable even if discretion is not its strong point. The sound is very pleasant, precise, and detailed without ever being aggressive. On the other hand, with its wire allowing you to play skipping rope, it is not the most nomadic equipment that we have seen! Besides, it is currently not available. So overall we will recommend you to buy AKG Noise Canceling Headphone Black (N60).
If you are looking for a balanced and clear sound, you will not find closed headphones at a better quality-price than the K550.
We just wish they were more portable. Its 3-meter thick cable does not disturb anything while you are at home, but it leaves you with a pocket full of wire when you go on the street. Maybe we complain too much about this, but nowadays when something achieves such an acceptable sound we don’t like to leave them at home. But if you are on a budget, the AKG K550 MKII is one of the best quality-price headphones. Have we made you long teeth? Find the best prices on Amazon today.
